Got Junk to Hall Off?
Posted in Getting Things Done on August 23rd, 2008
There is a problem in many cities these days. It’s called, “who do I call to come get this junk?” syndrome. You used to be able to call the Salvation Army, American Vets or Goodwill but they no longer want your junk. (They will take your stuff is it’s in good working order or in above average shape) But what do you do with the real junk?
Well, here are a few ideas.
- Find a friend with a pick-up truck and ask them to help you haul your junk to the nearest landfill. (You will need to check ahead and make sure your city or town landfill will take your kind of junk as they can be a bit picky as well)
- If you have tree limbs and other natural yard (wood, grass, etc) most cities have crews that come around ever so often to pick this up. You may be waiting for a few months for the crew to get to your house, so be patient.
- I personally like the idea of calling 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They specialize in getting rid of the things you don’t want. They come to you, pick it up and haul it off. No waiting or making sure they take what you have and no breaking your back! How cool is that!
If you are having a hard time deciding what to throw out, my mother used to say “when in doubt, just toss it out”. It’s always worked for me and I’ve never needed anything that I have thrown away back. Just get it done.
