It’s great being married to a budding interior designer because I overhear all these great ideas about homes and get to translate them to the things I love.  Recently I overheard a conversation about dividing a small room in categories to better utilize space as well as to make everything easy to remember and assessable.

I took that thought and decided to see what categories I would like to have in my garage.  Here’s what I have come up with:

1. Lawn & Garden (that was an easy one)
2. Auto (okay, another easy one)
3. Sporting Goods (If a big camper – this might be a separate category)
4. Tools & Hardware
5. Toys for kids

Of course you may have other hobbies that you will need to have a designated area for in your garage.  The main thing is to think through what you need and how much space those things will eventually take in your garage.  If they take up to much space you may need to think about a storage shed or other storage alternative.
