Why Winter is a Good for Spring
Most of us think about the emotional reason winter is so good for spring; we all rejoice once spring runs old man winter out of our neighborhood! But there are some real good reasons for us to be appreciative when we have these cold winter months where the snows are deeper than normal.
The first thing that comes to mind is the killing off of bugs and insects that can get really bad in the spring and summer months if there is no natural kill off. Because we have animals that live in our house; two dogs and one cat, I appreciate any help to control fleas and ticks. Having a cold winter helps control those nasty critters along with others that can get out of control if there is no harsh months of weather.
The great thing about snow, other than it is fun to play in and the kids get out of school, is the way it helps rejuvenate the soil. Rain tends to wash or runoff thus never really giving the earth a good slow soaking. Because snow tends to melt slowly, it soaks into the earth with gusto giving it nutrients and a deep watering that can bring beautiful green springs and wonderful flowers and vegetation throughout the seasons.
So before you cuss the cold bitter weather, think again and give a little bit of thanks for things to come.
